Today is International Women’s Day, and this year’s campaign theme is #EachforEqual.
Women are truly amazing, and when young women are given access to a safe education, an equal voice, and opportunities in the workplace, and when they are supported to rise to their full potential, everyone around them benefits. Our fair trade handmade toys in Nepal reflect this belief. For 18 years now, Pashom has closely collaborated with many inspiring women in Nepal to design and create beautiful products, made entirely by hand from all natural materials, which are sold through our retail partners and online stores all over the world.
We provide skills training for women who do not have prior experience in felting, aiming to empower them through the craft. Currently, we have over 40 women working full-time in our workshop in Kathmandu. We are also excited to have established a second workshop in a village just outside the city, where we now have 14 women in training with our skilled artisans.
This year, one of our primary objectives is to expand our financial sponsorship program, focusing on girls' education in Nepal. This initiative involves contributions from our entire team, supporting the cause of equal opportunity. As Audrey Hepburn famously said, “As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself, the other for helping others.”
As Pashom continues to grow, this mission intensifies in significance for us. Given our ethos revolves around handmade products, it is especially meaningful for us to contribute in this way. On this International Women’s Day, we want to acknowledge some of the remarkable women leading Pashom—women whose dedication and passion for our collective vision inspire us daily. It is genuinely a privilege to work with these incredible artisans.
